Burton Group Cloud SSO Interop Event
Contents
Background
Burton Group is hosting a federation interoperability event during its Catalyst conference this July in San Diego. Catalyst has been the host of many federation interoperability events in the past, including the first SAML 1.0 interop and the first multi-protocol interop demonstration. This year, we will focus on SaaS or cloud-based applications as the trend of utilizing off-premise applications continues to be a very hot topic for enterprises. The combination of off-premise and on-premise applications strains the management of access for these applications as well as the usability for those that are prompted for another userID and password for each SaaS application.
A big THANK YOU to OSIS and Pamela Dingle for sharing their wiki!
Objective
This interop will demonstrate how SAML and other federation protocols can address single sign-on scenarios for applications, regardless of if they are on-premise or hosted in the cloud. The basic scenario is depicted in the graphic below where users will authenticate at an Identity Provider site and gain access to participating SaaS or other off-premise hosted sites. Additional advanced scenarios are under development and will be posted here in the near future.
